1L Law School Tutoring

Your first year sets your class rank, your scholarship status, and your shot at OCI. The grades come from exams unlike anything you wrote before law school. That’s where I focus.

I've worked with 1Ls at top-ranked law schools and at regional ones. With students who came to me at the start of the semester and with students who reached out a week before exams in a panic. With students fighting to keep a scholarship and students aiming for the top of the class.

Why 1L is hard

1L grades aren’t a reflection of how much you know. They're a reflection of how well you spot issues under time pressure, organize an answer your professor can grade, and write in the style they reward. Most students don’t get explicit instruction in any of that. They figure it out — or they don’t — through trial and error on their first-semester exams.

I work with 1Ls to close that gap deliberately, before exams rather than after.

How I work with 1Ls

Every 1L I work with gets a setup that's specific to them — their casebook, their professor’s exam patterns, their current strengths and weaknesses, and their timeline.

A typical engagement includes:

  • Custom outlines for each doctrinal subject, built from your casebook and class notes and structured the way exam questions actually run

  • Practice exams modeled on your professor’s exam patterns, with detailed written feedback

  • Hypotheticals and issue spotters targeted to the doctrines you’re weakest on

  • Edits on your legal writing assignments — open and closed memos, briefs, and motion drafts

  • Exam-prep memos before finals, walking through likely fact patterns and how to approach each subject under time pressure

Sessions are remote and scheduled around your timeline. Materials and review are on demand.

Results

Most of my 1L students finish at or near the top of their class.

Sean saved me. I came out of first semester with a 2.8 and was at risk of losing my scholarship. With his help, I had a 3.7 second semester.

— Brian Z., MSU College of Law

I contacted Sean a week before my Property and Contracts exams, convinced I would fail both classes. Sean walked me through an entire semester’s worth of material in a few days. I ended up with a B+ in Property and A- in Contracts.

— Sarah L., Southwestern Law School

Sean did it all for me: created class and attack outlines, explained the material, and taught me how to IRAC.

— David K., University of Toledo College of Law
